The Sequoia Council operates two scout camps; Camp Chawanakee at Shaver Lake in the Sierra Nevada mountains (aka "Mile High Camping") and Camp Wortman in the Sierra foothills East of Visalia, California.

Camp Chawanakee is the larger and fully developed resident camp that is the signature of the camping program of the council. Chawanakee operates each summer (June through August) and features an outstanding dining hall, many organized activities/programs with an outstanding staff.

Camp Wortman smaller with a single large lodge building and is a primitive camping experience. Wortman is not staffed.

Camp Chawanakee Program

For those Scouts and Scouters who will be attending Camp Chawanakee for the 2003 season you should be prepared to have the time of your life!

This year’s program looks to be better then ever. All of your favorite programs return from 2002. Our 52' climbing wall will add excitement and thrills for scouts as well as adult leaders.

What else can you expect from Chawanakee?
Of course our ever popular Canoe Outpost will return for scouts to paddle across the lake and sleep under the stars.

Wild West Days will be our feature for Fridays again for this year, so get your western duds and get ready now!

Program activities will include: Canoe outposts; fishing;  horsemanship; sailing; rowing; swimming; lifesaving;  snorkeling; kayaking; rifle and shotgun shooting; black powder shooting; archery; and a 52' climbing wall for older scouts.
